Why Medication Safety Matters

At Solari, your well‑being is our highest priority. GLP‑1 medications—whether FDA‑approved (like Ozempic®, Zepbound®) or compounded—have specific safety profiles. We’re transparent about their benefits and risks to ensure informed, safe treatment.

Ozempic® (semaglutide)

FDA-approved for: Type 2 diabetes

Warnings:

  • May increase risk of thyroid C-cell tumors (animal data)
  • Do not use if you or a family member has a history of MTC or MEN 2
  • Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding

Common side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, dizziness, injection site reactions

Notes:

  • Slows digestion (can interfere with other medications)
  • Must be taken weekly via subcutaneous injection
  • Only to be used under supervision of a licensed provider

Zepbound® / Mounjaro® (tirzepatide)

FDA-approved for: Chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight (plus a comorbidity)

Warnings:

  • Similar thyroid cancer risk warning as Ozempic
  • May impact gallbladder and pancreas
  • May reduce effectiveness of oral contraceptives
  • Not for use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding

Common side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, fatigue, injection site reactions

Notes:

  • Higher rates of weight loss than semaglutide in some clinical trials
  • Not to be used in combination with other GLP‑1 or GIP receptor agonists
  • Administered weekly by injection

Compounded Tirzepatide

Not FDA-approved. Compounded tirzepatide is a version of the active ingredient in Zepbound®/Mounjaro®, prepared by a licensed pharmacy.

Risks:

  • Not evaluated by the FDA for safety or effectiveness
  • Formulations and potency may vary
  • Must be dispensed by a state-licensed, compliant compounding pharmacy

Common side effects (similar to brand): Nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, slowed digestion, injection site reactions

Notes:

  • Patients must disclose full medical history
  • Risk of gallbladder issues, thyroid concerns, or pancreatitis
  • Only prescribed when commercial options are unavailable or not appropriate

Compounded Semaglutide

Not FDA-approved. Compounded semaglutide is an alternative to Ozempic® or Wegovy®, prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy.

Risks:

  • Same safety warnings as Ozempic
  • Not FDA-evaluated; quality depends on the pharmacy
  • Greater risk of variability in dosing and ingredients

Common side effects (similar to brand): Nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, headache, fatigue, injection site irritation

Notes:

  • Inform your provider if you are taking other medications, pregnant, or planning surgery
  • Strictly follow dosing and storage instructions
  • Do not take with other GLP‑1 medications unless advised by your provider
